On the day Ryan Schofield died, neighbors reported a gathering at Ryan's home. They also mentioned that after a couple of hours, the last person walking out of his home was a girl.
Testimonials of people the day Ryan Schofield died:
This is one of Ryan's neighbors, Mrs. Adams.
That Ryan kid was such a nice boy, it's a shame he died. You said he died a couple of days ago... Hmm... All I remember from a few days ago was gardening... Oh wait! I remember something! Ryan had some friends over; one of them was a young, pretty girl that loved plants. She walked over to me and started talking to me about gardening. Oh, she was such a sweet girl. As for the other girl, all I didn't see her face, but she was smoking along with Ryan and another boy on the patio. I hope that helps you officer, I really want to know who would kill such a nice soul
Tim Walker, Ryan's other neighbor and one of the last people to see Ryan alive
Ryan, damn, what a shame! We used to hang out a lot every weekend, hitting the beach or the gym together. Anyways, I was with him the day he died. We were hanging out with two chicks; both of them were pretty hot. I believe one of the them was his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Lily, and the other one was the girl he had massive feelings for -- Melisa Daniels. Melisa spent the entire time around the fence, looking at the flowers and playing with them. If I remember correctly, she was a botanist and has loved plants since she was little. While we were smoking on the patio - Ryan, Samantha, and I - she was chatting it up with the lady next door about gardening techniques. She was the last person to leave since Ryan asked me to drive Samantha home. I obviously knew where Ryan was going so I left with Sam. That's it officer, good luck with the investigation. *After compiling information provided by the autopsist and the neighbors, it was conclusive that the murder weapon was poison, secretly hidden in the cigarettes. The CSI quickly went through the evidence box filled with paraphernalia from the crime scene. In Ryan's pockets, there was a fresh carton of cigarettes with only one cigarette missing. That cigarette apparently was discarded before he had died.
Interrogation
After conducting background checks, it turns out Melisa Daniels was a botanist that specialized in natural chemicals. Since Ryan died from smoking a poisoned cigarette, Ms.Daniels was the immediate prime suspect.
Melisa Daniels
Officers, I did not kill Ryan. He was a friend I met a couple of weeks ago at the university. Why would I want to murder him? Anyways, I heard about your investigations, and it sounds like I can help. Tobacco is a plant, but manufactured tobacco is a mixture of the plant and plenty of harmful additives. It wouldn't be hard for someone to slip a natural poison into tobacco and get away it, especially with the various brands of tobacco out there.
Investigator
So how do you think he died?
Melisa Daniels
Well, there are dozens and dozens of powerful toxins out in mother nature: ricin, anthrax, etc. However, we are looking for one that can be easily concealed in tobacco. The nerium oleander plant has powerful toxins, nearly every part of the plant is deadly. Adding sap to the tobacco mixture or mixing shredded dried leaves into the mix would prove instantly fatal. Castor beans, the origin of ricin, can be ground into dust and invisible to the naked eye.
Investigator
What are the possibilities?
Melisa Daniels
Both of them would be easy to detect upon analysis of the mixture. Even then, ricin and oleander causes more than respiratory issues. Mainly, both can cause vomiting and severe diarrhea in conjunction to organ damage. According to the autopsy report I saw, there were no internal organ damage except lung inflammation.
Investigator
So what is your opinion on the subject?
Melisa Daniels
Inflammation is caused by an allergen; ricin is an allergen, but the other symptoms of ricin poisoning are not present. In these parts, I can think of many allergens. However, if the lungs were shiny under light, it has to be an oil. Allergen oils... Hmm... I can't think of the name...
Investigator
Well, thanks for your cooperation. Once we get the oil unveiled, we'll consult you again.
